PotFolio runs entirely on your device. There is no backend, no user account, no cloud synchronisation, no analytics and no advertising. Everything you enter – accounts, pots, recurring incomes and settings – is stored locally on your device and is never transmitted to us or to any third party. We therefore do not collect, receive or process any personal data about you.
The protection of your personal data is a top priority for PotFolio. This privacy policy explains how your data is handled when you use the app. PotFolio is a local-first budgeting app: it is designed so that your financial data never has to leave your device in the first place.
The following data is stored exclusively in the app's private storage area on your device and is only accessible to PotFolio itself:
Financial Data
Your accounts and their balances, your pots and their allocations, recurring incomes and interest rates, and the balance history are saved in a local SQLite database on your device.
App Settings
Preferences such as currency, colour scheme, language, haptics, quick amounts and sort order are stored in local app storage on your device.
This data is never uploaded, shared or backed up by us. It may be included in a device backup you create yourself (e.g. iCloud or Google backup); such backups are controlled entirely by you and by Apple or Google, not by PotFolio.
PotFolio does not operate any server or backend of its own and works fully offline. In particular, the app does not:
- require an account, registration, email address or login
- synchronise your data with a cloud service
- use analytics, tracking or crash reporting SDKs
- display advertising or share data with ad networks
- create user profiles or use cookies
- transmit your financial data anywhere
Because no personal data reaches us, there is no processing of personal data by us within the meaning of Art. 4 (2) GDPR.
Local Storage
Required to store your accounts, pots and settings on the device. No permission dialog is needed for this, as it uses the app's own private storage area.
Device Language
On first launch the app reads your system language to select a matching translation. This value is only evaluated on the device and is not transmitted.
Email App (Support)
If you use the support function in the settings, PotFolio opens your device's email app with a prefilled message containing technical app logs. Nothing is sent automatically – you decide whether to send the email, and you can edit or discard it beforehand. Your email address only becomes known to us if you actually send the message.
Browser & Store Review
Links (for example to this privacy policy) open in your browser. The app can also display the review dialog provided by Apple or Google. Both actions are triggered by you and are handled by the operating system.
PotFolio itself integrates no third-party services that receive your data. The only third parties involved are the app stores through which the app is distributed:
Apple App Store / Google Play
When you download or update the app, Apple or Google process data such as download and, in aggregated form, crash statistics under their own responsibility. We have no influence on this processing and receive no personal data from it. Please refer to the privacy policies of Apple and Google for details.
You are in full control of your data at all times. Individual accounts, pots and recurring incomes can be deleted directly in the app. The "Reset App" button in the settings removes all locally stored data at once. Uninstalling PotFolio also deletes the local database and all settings from your device. Since we never receive any of this data, no request to us is required.
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection. As PotFolio stores no personal data on our side, we are unable to link any data to you – all of your data remains under your own control on your device. If you contact us by email, you may of course request information about, or deletion of, that correspondence at any time.
